A guide to commercial modelling

Who wouldn’t want to be a commercial model?

It’s an enviable job that can be done to suit anyone’s needs, as models can reject jobs if it’s not convenient for them. All our jobs are great fun to be a part of, and the pay is pretty good, too, although the fee depends on the specific assignment.

Being a commercial model can open doors that can lead to bigger things. We were going to include the word “better” after “bigger things”, but there aren’t many things better than commercial modelling. That’s why we have the best talent of “everyday” people regularly joining us, helping our considerable stable of notable clients.

But, first, you need to know exactly what commercial modelling is.

Put stereotypes out of mind and forget about catwalks. Commercial modelling has nothing to do with high fashion, little to do with glossy magazines, and has absolutely no connections with glitzy catwalks. Sure, these have their place in certain industries, but commercial models rarely come across them.

Commercial models are not high fashion models. They are employed by agencies and / or clients to represent the general population. They use their modelling and acting skills to help advertise products, be it on websites, in print, on social media or on TV.

Perhaps the most common type of assignment is photo shoots. Most of our assignments comprise models working with professional photographers on set. Many photo shoots invariably take place on location – that is, at client’s headquarters or at one of their outlets. Examples include our models arriving at the Surrey venue for Dobbies Garden Centre, and some of our young models posing as students at various locations for Here! Student Accommodation.

We also provide our models with promotional modelling jobs – these can be interacting with the public on high streets, in stores or at exhibitions / sports events.

Another type is acting on set for TV shows. We’ve placed hundreds of models of all ages as acting extras, which are needed by production companies to create realistic scenes – no doubt readers have seen plenty of extras on much-loved UK TV shows. And we can’t mention TV work without highlighting Neri, who has amassed thousands of pounds in modelling fees for her sterling work on shopping channel Ideal World TV. See, you really can be a TV star with a little perseverance and by being backed by the UK’s no.1 modelling employment agency.

Commercial models are down-to-earth and eager to work with some of the best clients around. We accept that some may not be able to fulfil jobs, but we’ll always put them forward to the client again, who always make the final decisions. Commercial models do not experience modelling experience, so this makes opportunities a real possibility for everyone.

But models rarely become stars in the limelight on their own. Everyone needs a little helping hand; by joining Models Direct, we’ll give models of all ages, looks and backgrounds the best start to their modelling career.
