Women have achieved so much throughout the history of time, pushing boundaries, stigma and taboos. Woman have risen in politics, become CEOs of top companies, and have made accomplishments in space! Hey, what can’t they do? However, the fight for women’s voices getting heard is far from over. It’s a constant battle and push for better representation, attention and opportunities – not just on International Women’s Day but every day.
On the 8th of March, every woman is recognised for all that she’s achieved, all the obstacles she’s overcome, how she got to where she is in her life and the impact she has on others. Journeying and honouring every woman’s life story and who she is is what is celebrated on this day (although we agree that it’s something we should recognise day in, day out). No matter how big or small, every woman deserves to make her mark in this world.
The Models Direct team includes many talented, hard working and fun women managing our models and clients.
To celebrate this day, we picked four amazing ladies in the fashion world, music and film industries that are making waves on the global scene in their unique way:
As a British fashion designer, Bianca Saunders has taken the modelling world by storm with her tailored menswear that’s challenging stereotypes of hypermasculinity. She has taken a great step to incorporate feminine details in her collections but keeping her male models looking edgy, bold and out there. Saunder’s work explores different identities and unites her background growing up in London mixed with an influential West-Indian heritage. She is making a mark and definitely leaving more than just ripples behind.
2, Martine Rose
Martine Rose has operated for more than a decade in the menswear fashion arena. She’s a London-based designer having launched her collection in 2007. Her outside the box approach and relying on her interaction with different communities has inspired her work throughout the years. Her cool collabs include Been Trill, Timberland and CAT. Rose’s South London-Jamaican upbringing can be seen in her work and she’s received some nominations which include the prestigious ANDAM prize for emerging designers in 2017 and being shortlisted for the LVMH Prize. She was also nominated for the BFC’s British Designer of the Year for menswear in 2018. Inspirational and motivating indeed!
3, Celeste
Receiving this year’s rising star award at The BRITs is Celeste. The songstress has had us captivated with her velvet tones, fabulous lyrics and dynamic attitude. We are hooked on 2020’s break out star, with tunes like; Stop This Flame and Strange, it’s no wonder. Hailing from Brighton, Celeste is set to move on up and we can’t wait to see where she is in a year. She’s the inspirational lady that we’ve got our eyes and ears on!
4, Lashana Lynch
Okay, so it’s fair to say that we are literally on the edge of our seats waiting for the new James Bond film, No Time To Die, right?! It’s coming to the big screens near you this April and one lady we are keeping our eyes peeled for is London actress, Lashana Lynch. She’ll be taking over the 007 agent number and we can’t wait to see her in action. Adding to her already action-packed CV, she has starred in Captain Marvel, Still Star-Crossed and TV series Bulletproof. This lady is making her mark in the movie world and we’re sure she will inspire other young girls to take on acting especially after her role in Bond.
Our Thoughts
Women have been and continue to make waves. To honour them and the seas that they’ve sailed, no matter what stormy weathers they’ve had to bear the brunt of to reach the shore, Models Direct would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the women in our lives and across the world and say: Happy International Women’s Day 2020!
