It’s a good question for would-be models, isn’t it?
It’s a question that any model should ask themselves, as it’s the difference between being on an agency’s books and actually fulfilling dreams of working with top notch clients throughout the country.
The simple answer is that models are chosen by our clients. It’s entirely a client’s decision as to which models get picked, although we use our acumen in the industry to put forward the very best models for them to choose from.
As the industry-leading modelling agency in the UK, it’s our duty to explain the process which turns our registered models into working models. It’s a simple, tried-and-tested formula that has served our models and our clients in good stead for over 30 years. We’ve found it to be the most effective and efficient plan to achieve the best results: that is, keeping our clients happy by recommending the most talented commercial models to work with them in their marketing campaigns.
The very first step for a potential model to do is to apply to register with us. There are three main points to make about registering with us:
1. Modelling experience is not necessary. This makes modelling accessible to anyone with the desire to become a model.
2. Application takes about two minutes. All you need is to fill out personal details along with two clear headshot photos – professional photographers are not required, so Smartphones are ideal for this.
If you are selected and register with us, you’re in the best position to be chosen for modelling work. You can’t rest on your laurels though; offers of work won’t necessarily happen straightaway, although we’ll always recommend the best-suitable models to our clients. Patience is a must for all models. Competition is high, but that’s expected in an industry with so much talent and opportunity.
Once registration is complete, you’re an “active” model on our books. From here, our experienced in-house booking team are alerted to hundreds of modelling jobs every week. They use their knowledge to select the most suitable models to put forward to our clients; the models we recommend are based on the client’s brief.
Most of our clients know roughly the right look they’re looking for. Some briefs are more specific than others, e.g. “Female model aged 18-22 years of age required for fashion photo shoot”. Others are more generic, e.g. “Male models aged 20-40 years of age needed for Christmas campaign”.
It’s our job to decide who fits the bill the best, and to present them to top brands all around the country. This is where models should keep their e-portfolios updated. If you decide to have a new haircut, show us by uploading fresh photos. If you have changed address, we need to know. This particularly applies to teenagers, whose looks can change considerably in a matter of months. Remember – it’s to a model’s advantage to keep their portfolios fresh.
It may be our clients’ decision to choose the models for their marketing needs, but without a reputable agency like us, models wouldn’t even be seen by clients. Keep working hard, and continue to reap the benefits of being a Models Direct model.
