As one of the country’s leading modelling agencies Models Direct is renowned for its animal magic as well as its prowess with people.
Yes, not only do we find work for baby, child, male and female models, but we are also known for our ability to supply clients with just the right cute and cuddly creatures.
Pet modelling is a key part of what we do today – and what we have been known for over the past three decades.
Leading brands and major high street names approach us for four-legged and feathered friends for their advertising and promotions.
And smaller businesses and organisations also come to us if they require perfect pets for their promotions.
So if you have a cat, dog, bird or other animal that you think would look simply wonderful in front of a camera – or you have a creature companion with that certain special something that everyone finds appealing – how should you proceed?
Well, here are our DOs and DON’Ts for making a pet model application:
DO – Consider whether your pet has something unique or especially different, engaging or cuddly about them.
DO – Think about whether they have the right temperament to spend time in front of a camera, under lights and with people around them.
DO – Take some great photographs of your star pet, making sure we can see the whole of your furry, feathered or scaly friend in each image that you send us.
DO – Position them in front of a backdrop against which they will stand out clearly – ie put a black kitten on a white cushion or a sandy coloured puppy on the green grass.
DO – Add some props that might bring a little interest to the picture – show us your kitchen chasing a ball, your puppy with his soft toy or your gecko on a flower.
DO – Tell us all about your pet – describe their looks, size and temperament to us and tell us more about their particular species.
DO – Consider your availability as we will need you to accompany them to each assignment and to be there to handle and reassure them if necessary.
DO – Think about which geographical areas you are happy to work in and how well your pet will travel.
DON’T –Consider animal modelling if your pet is extremely timid, nervous and anxious around people.
DON’T –Consider pet modelling if you have such a busy life yourself that you will be unable to take them along to photo and film shoots.
DON’T –Take photos of your pet that are so blurry or low resolution that we cannot see them clearly in each image.
DON’T –Put your put against a background that camouflages them – this is easily done with animals as they are often supposed to be able to hide themselves within their natural environments.
So, what should you do next if you think pet modelling is right for you and your pal?
Firstly, spend some time taking some great shots on your phone of your star pet, following the suggestions above very carefully.
Then fill in our form, upload some of your pictures and wait for one of our team members to be in touch.
Write down any questions you might have and when they call you they will be very happy to answer these.
They will also tell you more about how pet modelling works and then you can decide whether or not you think it is right for you and your amazing animal!
