We may not be able to travel right now but that doesnt stop us dreaming of Summer. Amongst the last-minute purchases holidaymakers make are swimsuits, trunks and bikinis. Looking stylish on the beach is a must for most – especially when uploading photos on Facebook and Instagram the moment you head down to the beach. Models Direct takes a “brief” look at which fashion items are set to cause a storm on the beach this summer. Now all we need is the sun to make an appearance!
1. Quick-drying versatility. Quick-drying beachwear for both the beach and nightlife will be all the rage this summer. No more traipsing back to your hotel room to change! Quick drying fabrics include polypropylene, nylon and polyester. Whilst cotton is undeniably comfortable, it tends to take a longer time to dry out. With the material sorted, think about the design. For casual dining, go for neutral colours that adhere to most dress codes. For partying, opt for shiny colours and stripes / spots to make you stand out on the dance floor. Après-beachwear has never been so practical.
2. Asymmetric bikinis. Ladies, the new look for this summer is a lack of symmetry, especially when it comes to the upper body. One-shoulder bikinis are definitely “in”, so flaunt them to your heart’s content. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a traditional double strap bikini, but these one-strap affairs will make you stand out as a sun worshipper who knows their fashion.
3. Animal prints. From feline prints to reptile skin designs, take a walk on the wild side this summer by rocking your favourite animals prints. Better suited for the ladies, leopard prints and snake skins continue their popularity with celebrities on sun-drenched beaches. The word on the beach is that triangular bikinis are back in, too, so combine these with animal prints and you’ll bag yourself a sure-fire winner. A quick look on Instagram will confirm that plenty of celebs are animal-friendly.
4. High waist bottoms. The female version of male swimming trunks, bikini bottoms covering the hips are a cool option this summer. High waist briefs maybe more modest than most, but get the design right and you’ll be bang up to fashion on the beach.
5. Tie-dye. Retro hasn’t really gone totally out of fashion, so any 1960s-1980s designs are always worth a punt. Indeed, this summer, Bohemian hippie chic is back, baby! The variety of colours in tie-dye designs means that you’ll rarely clash with other trend-setters. For Caribbean destinations choose pinks and yellows; blues and reds are perfect for European locations. That said, the choice is up to you!
6. Brightly whitey. Think Ursula Andress in that bikini, only bright white. As classic as they come, white bikinis have the advantage of being super-timeless, meaning your money will be well spent.
7. Beige sandals / wide brimmed hats. A gorgeous combination, beige sandals can be the lightweight slip-on style, or the more chunky designs, which are perfect if you’re planning to explore the backstreets after topping up your suntan on the sands. Wide brimmed sunhats are elegant fashion accessories, and obviously have practical benefits from UV protection. Enjoy al fresco lunches or barbecues on the beach by choosing straw fedoras, or opt for Mediterranean chic by going for floppy styles. Either way, the wider the brim, the cooler you’ll feel…and look.
