Marie Curie and Rough Guides

A worthwhile assignment recently needed three notable parts to come together to produce a UK first.

Marie Curie teamed up with global travel brand Rough Guides to create the UK’s first-ever end-of-life guidebook. It might sound gloomy, but it’s an essential resource for people coping with bereavement or if they’re supporting anyone in their final years. The Rough Guide to The End of Life was published in 2023.

Marie Curie is a leading charity, and familiar with many. It centres on providing care and support for anyone living with illnesses that they’re likely to die from. It was founded in 1948 – the same year in which the NHS was established. Marie Curie has helped millions of people, and it’s always a privilege working with well-regarded brands or charities.

Rough Guides is predominately a travel guidebook and reference publisher. It’s respected by countless travellers and holiday-makers, having been founded in the early 1980s. Their factual and entertaining content has been invaluable for adventurous travellers to hundreds of countries.

The combination of a guidebook publisher with a major welfare charity was a first for us, but we had just the right person for the assignment.

That right person was the third notable part mentioned earlier – Kristina Karlsen. She’s no stranger to commercial modelling, having been on our books for a few years now. An adaptable and thoroughly professional model, Kristina took part in a photo session for the end-of-life guidebook. She’s been a mainstay of Models Direct, and appreciates our values as the no.1 modelling employment agency in the country. Her family even starred in a successful vacuum cleaner assignment five years ago – bagging them over £600 in fees.

Though she’s a modelling stalwart, Kristina was thrilled to help with the Marie Curie end-of-life handbook. It contains advice and information including funeral arrangements, organ donating, making a will, and what to do with confidentiality when someone passes away, e.g. bank accounts and social media accounts and online finances such as utility bills.
