What do Models Direct, a Lancashire comedy legend, and a famous Yorkshire supermarket have in common?
If you think the answer is that they are all at the top of their game, you’d be right. But we need something more specific.
If your instincts tell you the answer is “garlic bread”, you’d be getting much warmer.
We recently received an exciting modelling brief from Morrisons, asking for two commercial models to be involved in a unique promotion. Dana and Bruno were selected by Morrisons to advertise Peter Kay’s new book TV: Big Adventures on the Small Screen, which was released late last year. The premise was really quite simple: every Morrisons customer who bought the book received free garlic bread. As most TV lovers and fans of the Bolton-born funny man will know, Kay is well-known for his catchphrase “Garlic bread? Garlic? Bread? Garlic?…and bread?” It was the perfect promotion, and was well received among the hordes of happy shoppers.
It’s not often someone gets paid for their talents helping with a promotion for both a famous comedian and a large supermarket. But, at Models Direct, it’s just another example of making stars out of ordinary people showcasing their skills. In essence, that’s what commercial modelling is all about: brands recognising the talents of everyday people appealing to the general population. It’s not surprising that companies of all sizes come back to us asking for the best modelling talent in the country. It’s what we do, after all.
The book details Kay’s love of all things telly, from youngster to household-name. There are many comedy shows that he adores, of course, but there are some pleasant surprises in his personal catalogue of telly favourites. His telly addiction paid off, because he’s been one of the most famous faces on British screens for the past 20 years. Everyone likes a good catchphrase, and Kay first gave his legions of fans his opinion on garlic bread in the comedy series Phoenix Nights, claiming, “Garlic bread! It’s the future, I’ve tasted it!”It’s become an iconic comedy saying ever since his character Brian Potter quoted it on the Bolton-set show. And now it’ll become associated with
Dana and Bruno certainly tasted something on their assignment – the sweet smell of success. They were asked to pose as supermarket staff with the pungent bread, whilst showing off Kay’s book. Sounds easy? No comment – but it was definitely a memorably enjoyable experience for both of the models.
Dana revealed to us after her day’s shooting: “What a fun first experience with Models Direct! I did a promotional shoot in a superstore with another male model with myself playing a store assistant. We took various product shots and situation shots. The photographer and shoot director were so easy to get on with and incredibly professional, the morning simply flew by in no time at all. Now I’m just really looking forward to my next experience!”
What a dream job for first-time models. It’s also proof that anyone can be selected by our clients, regardless of previous work or experience.
