It’s time to get you camera-ready with a few of our top modelling tips!
Whether you are out and about snapping your own shots for your e-portfolio or you are undertaking a professional photo shoot through Models Direct, there are some key DOs and DON’Ts for being caught on camera…
1 Listen to the person with the camera
Whether you are working with a professional photographer or a friend or relative, you need to listen carefully and follow their instructions. They can see how you are framed, what the lighting looks like and whether the image is likely to work. On a professional photo shoot, the camera person is unlikely to want your suggestions. They will be operating to a tight schedule and will know what they are seeking to achieve during the assignment. When snapping your own modelling shots, do what the person with the camera says, then try out a few of your own fun ideas afterwards. After all, on an amateur shoot, you can take all the time you need!

This is why we always speak to potential new models – or their parents if they are children – on the phone once they have uploaded their application form and some photographs.
The reasons for our friendly phone chat are numerous – but, in a nutshell, we need to know that you are right for us, we are right for you and you understand exactly how we work.
We have been in the business for over three decades now and have built a solid reputation for the way we operate, our transparency, our professional service and the care we take of our models.
So, why do we need to talk to you?

Am I too old for modelling?
You are never too old to apply to become a model!
Here at Models Direct we have a rich variety of all sorts of models of all ages.
Our models start as young as newborn babies and can be as old as those in their 80s or 90s!
Our clients, who promote a wide range of different products and services, need people of all ages to help them do that.
They need models who can pose as mums, dads, grannies and grandpas and they need people to help them advertise products specifically aimed at consumers of the same age.
These days, marketing teams not only need to tempt a broad swathe of potential purchasers to buy everything from cars and food to clothes and home accessories, but they also have specific items and services aimed at certain age groups.
Mature models might, for example, be required for promotions focusing on retirement, older people’s holidays and certain health products.

Keeping a Positive Mind –
Whether you’re a newcomer or a fully immersed model with a rising career in the modelling industry, you can face moments where work feels like it’s withdrawn. You might be left wondering what’s going on the other side of your portfolio and it can feel challenging to stay positive when you’re faced with periods of silence from your agency.
Models Direct knows that when you enter our industry, it’s very important for models to remember that work isn’t always consistent. It can come in waves, sometimes assignments launch at ultra-high speed or land at a slow-moving pace. So, that all-important outlook to leverage is keeping a positive attitude. How do you do this, you may be asking? We’ll reveal all right here with some useful tips:

Diversity and Modelling with Models Direct
Can the words ‘diversity’ and ‘modelling’ have a positive impact in the same sentence? Yes, they most certainly can, particularly with Models Direct. We take a big leap forward and unite the two together. Let’s dig in to find out more.
We think diversely
MD embraces how varied life is. Whether it’s the clients and industries we work with or our models. We break the mould. Before diversity and inclusion were even a thing, modelling agencies might have considered these concepts but they aren’t new to us.
We projected that traditional beauty standards weren’t what we were after from the word go and intended to spark positive change around diversity, challenging other modelling agencies to follow suit.
We have aimed to fill the significant gap in the industry among diverse everyday people. Has this been a successful intention we envisaged 3 decades ago? While the proof is certainly in the pudding, to this present day, MD is still registering models of all shapes, sizes, ages, genders, cultures, abilities and backgrounds, and our clients continue to book diverse models for their standout campaigns that are anything but ordinary.
