Will I get a booking straight away?

It’s understandable that models think they’ll be offered the best commercial modelling jobs with us a short time after registering. That’s natural. Applying with a top agency remains the right decision for eager models looking for jobs with the best brands in the country, and it still gives models the best odds on being offered those jobs.

But success can’t happen instantly for everyone. Competition is fierce in most industries, and the world of commercial modelling is no different. As our client list increases both in diversity and number, so does the number of our models. It would be unrealistic (and a little naïve) to think you’ll definitely be selected after being put forward to our clients in such a short time.

And that’s a crucial point that all models must remember: our bookings team might very well recommend the same model to our clients on numerous occasions. After that, it’s the client’s final decision that matters. That means we’ll continue to put forward the right models to clients for different jobs if that model is suitable, but the final choice is always made by the clients.

Perseverance is a quality that holds most of us in good stead. In most walks of life, refusing to give up can reap great rewards. Models need to realise that instant work cannot be guaranteed. A model may think they are perfect for a job – as we might do, too – but it’s our job to make sure our clients see the best model’s profiles for them to choose the ones they’d like to help them with their marketing campaigns, whether that’s posing as real people in direct advertising or increasing their brand profile through other means.

The same applies with pet modelling; we have many beautiful and eye-catching animals on our books and they are all special in their own way, but clients usually are only able to pick one at a time for their requirements.

The trick is to be rational and proactive. Sitting back waiting for things to happen rarely brings success. Models must rely on their self-confidence, trusting their looks and beliefs. They must realise that being chosen by clients usually takes time.

They must also focus on taking effective reels and show-stopping clear photos in various poses, and updating them at regularly intervals to their Models Direct ePortfolios. Just as job seekers update their CVs with skills and work experience, models must also keep their portfolios fresh to catch the attention of our clients.

So, keep at it and don’t be too despondent if you haven’t been chosen by a client yet. Many of our models receive multiple bookings, and that’s invariably down to them being enthusiastic and not losing faith.

Yes, modelling is competitive – as it should be. That means the industry is in good shape, and one that models should be passionate about being involved in.
