We live in Wyton, a small village near Cambridge. Amelia is our first child, and she’s nearly one year old.
I think Amelia’s beautiful, and she’s also really good in front of the camera when we have photographs taken. So we just thought we’d give it a go and see where it went. If she didn’t like it, we wouldn’t do it any more.
I did a search on the internet, and Models Direct appealed to me more than the other agencies I looked at. I liked the fact that they had positive testimonials from other parents of baby models.
Although there’s a fee, you don’t have to pay out for professional photoshoots or anything like that. It didn’t seem like a big deal considering what she’d be getting. So I didn’t mind.
We started out with Superstar status, and I tried to keep Amelia’s profile updated too. We got our first assignment after about three months.
A friend of mine had Googled Models Direct and read that they took your money and you’d never hear from them again. So it was quite nice to prove people wrong.
The job was for Endemol, makers of ‘The Sex Education Show’, on behalf of Channel 4. We had to travel to a rural school in Bourne, Lincolnshire. It’s about 40 miles and it took us less than an hour to get there.
Amelia slept on the way and was a bit grumpy when we arrived, but as soon as filming started she was fine. Her role was to be cared for by two sixteen-year-olds, a boy and a girl, for an hour, including feeding and changing. I and the other mums were all on hand, just out of camera shot.
Amelia did really well. She made a little bit of a fuss, but that was what the producers wanted, so that was OK!
For me, Amelia’s health and happiness always come first, and I was pleased that her safety was paramount, both for Models Direct and for the client. Everything we needed was provided, and it was a really nice, fun day.
Amelia doesn’t have that much involvement with people outside the family, so I guess the best thing was seeing how she handled that kind of situation. It showed that she was an independent little person in her own right.
You don’t know what your baby is capable of until they try, so go for it!
